STAI stands for Students Tilburg Amnesty International. It is a student groups who pursues the goals of Amnesty International, but in its own unique form.

The aim of Amnesty International is to pursue a world where everyone enjoys the rights established in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights documents. Amnesty International mainly focuses on:

  • the right to physical and mental integrity
  • the right to freedom of consciousness and speech
  • the right not to be discriminated

Amnesty International pursues its aim by organising activities. The headquarters in Amsterdam make a activity calendar which they supply to all groups throughout the Netherlands. Our group decides which activities we will use at campus. We will also create our own activities.
Obviously liberation day (May fifth) and human rights day (December tenth) are very important days for all Amnesty International groups. The activities during that day are the biggest of the year. During those days we try to create awareness throughout the student body about human rights and what violation of them means.
There are also theme campaigns, during those we will organise activities that support a central theme. We plan to organise a week of activities to support it. There are various activities that we can organise such as; hosting parties, organising movie screenings or have people sign petitions.
Finally there are also some small activities that we organise such as celebrating international women day!
Activities can be divided into two categories. The first one is creating awareness and the second is gaining support. We try to create awareness by addressing large groups of students by organising big events such as debate nights, movie screenings and lectures. We try to gain support by organising a fun event to kick off national collection week. Further more we organise events to attract more members for our group.
As a member you would help organising and brain storm about new activities that will help create awareness about human rights and human rights violations. Every year members can be elected to join the board. As a board member you’ll have great possibilities to develop leadership skills and it will be a major plus on your curriculum vitea. At this time we are still looking for a treasurer to join the board. Let us know if you are interested!
It is also possible to join commissions that organise events, this is also a plus on your curriculum vitea!
